Shortly after 2 p.m. on Oct. 23, Maryland State Police troopers were called to the northbound lanes of the interstate in Sparks Glencoe when the pick-up hauling a trailer was traveling southbound on I-83 when for unknown reasons, lost control, crossed over into the northbound lanes, and struck a mobile crane.

Both went up in flames and the initial incident caused three other vehicles to crash.

The driver of the truck and crane were both pronounced dead at the scene. Their identities have not been released by state police. Four others were taken by paramedics to WellSpan York Hospital in Pennsylvania for treatment of undisclosed injuries.

Following the crash, all northbound lanes on I-83 remained closed hours later as the investigation continues.

More information is expected to be released.
